Dear Founding Fathers

Dear Founding Fathers,

It is with great hesitation and reluctance I place ink to this paper.  The following words will likely reveal emotions in many forms.  That being said, I strongly encourage you to pay close attention to what you are about to read.

You must first forgive our elected officials for dismissing your writings, twisting your beliefs and minimizing the powers you so desired for the American people. It is with much regret to inform you that numerous unwarranted and unjust "changes" to the Constitution have been implemented by many presidents, congressmen and judges.  Gentlemen, you agreed the Constitution was written and signed to protect it's citizens rights, first and foremost, but unfortunately, many of those rights have been censored or removed completely, and it appears more will be taken in order to "protect American lives."  If I may be so bold, today's government's definition of protecting American lives is to spy on it's citizens by using electronic surveillance, cameras, drones, cell phones, credit cards and satellites located in space.  Of course, none of these items have meaning to you because they were invented after your passing.  But for you to better understand, these items are used by our government to secretly track American citizens with or without just cause.  No one is excluded from this breach of privacy concocted by those nominated and elected to abide by the laws of the land.  I'm certain my letter is quite shocking and your tempers must be flaring, but I feel a responsibility to inform you of these dastardly deeds being, or having been, performed by our country's political leaders.

You, distinguished men, concluded that our government's primary role was to protect individual life, liberty, and property.  Well, I dare say that millions upon millions of unborn babies have been purposely killed due to a ruling in the last century.  In the year of our Lord 1973, the U.S. Supreme Court affirmed the legality of a woman's right to have an abortion under the Fourteenth Amendment to the Constitution.  The court case was Roe v. Wade, and our Justices voted in favor of this deplorable act by a 7-2 margin.  I'm certain this deceptively shrewd interpretation of the Fourteenth Amendment was never intended to be used in this manner.  You honorable men of strong moral character would certainly disapprove.  Fortunately, as you are well aware, our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ freely forgives all who ask for His forgiveness, repent of their sinful ways, and believe in their heart that He rose from the dead.  May He have mercy on our country.

Gentlemen, I must also inform you that our right to bear arms is in great jeopardy.  Our government has threatened, on numerous occasions, to remove this sacred right from all Americans.  They use the term "gun control" which limits a citizen's right to purchase firearms claiming it will limit crimes and make America a safer place to live.  They are using every known press outlet to indoctrinate the public.  Sirs, this is a direct violation of the Second Amendment in the Bill of Rights. Their true motives are seldom revealed but most law abiding citizens are certain, based on  previous decisions, their goal is to further limit one's liberties thus preventing any rebellion by believers in the Constitution.
it rejects all conspiracy theories that the media is simply out to indoctrinate the public. [verb]

Regarding our property rights, our land can be taken from us by implementing what is called, "eminent domain." Eminent Domain is defined as "The right of a government to take private property for a public purpose, usually with just compensation of the owner." Gentlemen, I understand the Fifth Amendment in the United States Constitution stipulates: “nor shall private property be taken for public use, without just compensation.”  Unfortunately, many cases involving eminent domain are not warranted and would be considered an abuse of governmental power in 1776.  Furthermore, just compensation is rarely "just" and seldom do wounds heal after one's property is stolen. These actions do not describe your Republic.  To illustrate, a land owner was asked to sell some of his property.  He refused on the premise his ancestors had owned the land for generations.  Despite his refusal, a dozen land owners proposed dividing the property owner's land between them. They allowed him to vote on the proposition, concluding, "this is a democracy after all -- and you will lose twelve to one."

Their actions were unconstitutional.  As I understand, the majority cannot outvote an individual's rights, which are unalienable.  His land belongs to him and it is the government's fiduciary responsibility to protect his rights. These thieves failed to read the Declaration of Independence.  In fact, in that priceless document, following the statement "...life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness" it says, "That to secure these rights, governments are instituted among men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed."

I must bring another issue to your attention.  In the early 1900's, a proposal was suggested to tax the richest people in America.  This represented the top two percent of the people.  Since ninety-eight percent of Americans were not affected, they voted to ignore the Constitution and force their fellow citizens to pay taxes.  Gentlemen, a Republic form of government protects the minority and individual rights.  This troubling event singled out a minority group and allowed the majority to prevail.  It also created a government agency known as the Internal Revenue Service.  This was Democracy in action.  A form of government you despised.  Today, the taxpayer category has greatly expanded and every citizen is required to pay taxes.  Most people pay a minimum of thirty percent of their wages to the Internal Revenue Service.

You envisioned, under a proper government, a private citizen is legally free to do as he pleases (as long as he doesn’t violate the rights of others), while government is bound by laws, and government officials are bound both by law and their oaths. In other words, you determined a private citizen may do anything “except that which is legally forbidden and a government official may do nothing except that which is legally permitted.” You, our devoted Founders almost unanimously realized that our country needed to be established as a republic rather than a pure democracy. We would be a nation of laws and not a nation of men. Under such a system, the rights of all individuals would be properly respected and protected.

In closing, my greatest wish is for all of you to return and reestablish our Republic. You may ask, what difference would it make?  Sirs, it would make all the difference in the world. Our country, in many ways, has become a pure democracy with few exceptions.  Some policies would be considered socialistic which angers me to the core.  Your presence and clarification of the Constitution, Bill of Rights and our most prized possession, the Declaration of Independence, would bring an understanding desperately needed by the people of this great land. Unfortunately, I do realize this is an impossible request.  Whom, then, shall be responsible?  I hear your answer from afar:  "We the People..."

Sincerely yours,

Concerned American Citizen
